The principal raw material for NatureFlex™ is cellulose from trees. Cellulose is a renewable raw material, but the way in which it is obtained is important:
We only source our wood-pulp from referenced suppliers who operate sustainable forestry management principles such as FSC or similar. The pulp is sourced from trees grown in conditions which do not require additional irrigation. The use of herbicides, insecticides and fertilisers is low to minimise the environmental impacts of this process.
Standard uncoated and coated NatureFlex™ films generally contain between 90 & 99% renewable raw materials (RRM). NatureFlex™ enhanced heat seal films will have a lower level of RRM; The actual level will depend on the specific grade. Please refer to Innovia Films for specifc enquiries on these film grades.
Our films have been tested to ASTM D6866, which determines the amount of bio-based carbon, by measuring the ratio of ‘new carbon’ to ‘fossil carbon’ sources. A typical example is illustrated in this pie-chart.
