Corporate Social Responsibility Award
Cumbrian-based manufacturer, Innovia Films, has scooped a prestigious award from Chemicals Northwest in recognition of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work with a local secondary school, Nelson Thomlinson School (NTS).Chemicals Northwest is a cluster organisation which supports the North West of England’s chemical industry and has 145 members.
Chemicals Northwest CEO, Dr Jenny Clucas, explained: “Again, companies have proven that they are still investing in skills, innovation and sustainable development in order to improve their businesses and that they have not dropped corporate social responsibility activities from their agendas.”
Innovia Films’ Wigton site won the 2010 Chemicals Northwest CSR Award at a ceremony held at Manchester’s Midland Hotel last month.
The company has supported activities at NTS for many years such as Young Enterprise and the Gold CREST Award, which provides science research projects for Sixth Form students. Work experience placements are also offered across a number of departments at the company’s Wigton headquarters, where 850 staff are employed. In the last three years the relationship between NTS and Innovia Films has been further strengthened by engaging directly with teaching staff and students.
“This award is an excellent opportunity to highlight how Innovia Films’ Wigton Site fits into the community and emphasises the importance of its relationship with the local school – Nelson Thomlinson,” enthused David Oldham, Wigton Site HR Manager.
