Biodegradable Film Offers Improved Packing Performance

Date: 21 March 2005

Innovia Films (formerly UCB Films) will be showcasing its unique biodegradable and compostable NatureFlex™ films at its booth 931 at the All Things Organic Trade Show, April 30 - May 3.

NatureFlex™ is a family of biodegradable cellulose-based films, derived from renewable wood pulp and is certified to meet the ASTM D6400 standard for compostable packaging. NatureFlex™ is also registered with the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) to carry the official compostable logo by the BPI.

By adding specially formulated biodegradable and compostable surface layers Innovia Films is able to control the moisture permeability of the films to provide films ranging from highly permeable for fresh produce which produce moisture to higher barrier films for hygroscopic products.

NatureFlex™ films are stiffer and more oriented than many biopolymers currently on the market which makes them ideal for use in standard flow-wrap and form-fill-seal equipment for food packaging. Glossy and transparent, they are also static-free for easy handling.

The range is ideal for packaging natural and organic products, including dried snacks, candy, bakery goods, fresh produce, household products and personal care items.  It offers natural and organic product manufacturers the opportunity to align their packaging message with the spirit of their product marketing, by providing them with a biodegradable, naturally-based packaging material.

“NatureFlex™ is a highly versatile packaging film,” says Innovia Films Market Manager Americas for Packaging & Industrial Films, Malcolm Cohn.  “You can use it to maximize the attractiveness of organic products in all applications such as flow wrap, form fill and seal, twist wrap and bag-making.”
