Drum Label Film Gives Outstanding Performance
Date: 14 June 2005
Innovia Films has introduced a range of new top-coated white facestock films designed primarily for use in the industrial, chemical, logistics and transport labelling markets.Rayoface™ WTT films are topcoated, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) which give exceptional print performance with added moisture, oil, chemical and smudge resistance. Available in both 65 and 95 micron thicknesses, both high speed automatic labelling and hand application are catered for.
Their UV stable, paper-like topcoat is printable across a wide range of traditional print processes and for variable information printing (VIP) by thermal transfer or dot matrix printing.
For applications requiring outdoor durability, the 95 micron variant has UV stabilisation of the pigmented white BOPP base film that extends the outdoor lifetime up to two years.
The 65 micron variant has no stabilisation of the white base BOPP. It is targeted at short-term applications such removable shelf-marking and goods and container labelling.
A reverse-side acrylic coating on both variants, ensures wide ranging adhesive compatibility and together with the non-cavitated nature of the structure, ensures that upon container recycling the label can be removed cleanly and cost effectively without delamination or tearing.
For VIP printing of product information such as serial and batch numbers, the highly absorbent topcoat gives high quality, scuff and smudge resistant bar-codes using a wide range of thermal transfer ribbons and is particularly suited to wax and wax/resin ribbon systems. The film’s surface is also smooth enough for high quality results when using resin ribbons. The printing of WTT by traditional print processes gives vibrant colours for full-colour graphics and brand identification. WTT has wide ranging compatibility across printing process and ink type.
The balanced properties of Rayoface™ WTT bring the industry accepted benefits of bubble produced BOPP to the conversion process such as high-speed lamination, superior die-cutting with high quality label edges and even die wear and reliable matrix stripping.
Says Richard Southward, Business Development Manager for Labels, “The Rayoface™ WTT range is a product of Innovia Films’ extensive development capability which encompasses state of the art polymer technology and film coating expertise.
“It has been developed primarily to answer the challenges faced by the exterior labelling markets. Users throughout the value chain will realise significant cost benefits in areas such as improved conversion efficiency, consistent quality bar-code printing and readability, longevity of service and cost-effective container recycling.”
