Eco-Friendly Film for Feminine Hygiene Products

Date: 15 February 2005

A unique packaging film which will biodegrade in waste water is now being used by one of Europe’s leading heath product manufacturers to wrap its range of digital tampons.

Rauscher Consumer Products GmbH decided to switch to NatureFlex from Innovia Films for “ecological reasons”.

The Senta range of tampons is sold throughout Europe and says Mr. Richard Fruhwürth, General Manager Rauscher Consumer Products the use of NatureFlex compliments the company’s strategy on sustainability.

“We believe the use of NatureFlex is a good step for our environment.”

NatureFlex NE30 is made from wood pulp from managed plantations and is one of only a handful of packaging materials which fulfils the criteria of the Miti Test (ISO 14851) for ambient aqueous biodegradation.

In tests carried out by OWS in Belgium, NatureFlex fully biodegraded in water in under 24 days.

Says Innovia Films Market Development Manager, Sustainable Technologies, Andy Sweetman: “Not only does NatureFlex offer the advantage of complete biodegradation, it also performs extremely well on high speed packing lines.”

NatureFlex films have an extremely wide heat sealing range from 70ºC to 200ºC for improved line speeds with no loss of seal performance. No adhesive is required to create a strong seal. N30 is coated on both sides with a high moisture barrier sealant layer.

The film is also very glossy and transparent and has natural deadfold properties. NatureFlex tear tapes are also available.
