Latest in High Performance Films

Date: 26 September 2006

Innovia Films, the leading global supplier of speciality biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cellulose films for packaging and labelling is showcasing its extensive range of films, from twistwrap, through flow wrap, to overwrap and food labelling

A highlight of the show will be the NatureFlex™ range of biodegradable cellulose-based films, derived from renewable resources which are certified to meet the  European standard for compostable packaging EN13432 by Dincertco, Germany.  NatureFlex™ is also registered to the American ASTM D6400 norm, with AIB Vincotte and with the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) to carry the official compostable logo.

New for this year’s show will be NatureFlex™ NM, the first metallised biodegradable film suitable for both industrial and home composting.

This latest development has been tested to, and passed, the strict protocols of ASTM D6400 and EN13432 and has also been tested for ambient compostability which means it will also be suitable for home composting.

NatureFlex™ NM is the only metallised biodegradable film suitable for home composting because the level of metal is so small – less than 0.02% - which slows the film’s degradation by a matter of days but does not interfere with its biodegradability in any other way.

NatureFlex™ films, which include transparent and white grades, are ideal for packaging natural and organic products, including candy, bakery goods, fresh produce, household products and personal care items.  They offer natural and organic product manufacturers the opportunity to align their packaging message with the spirit of their product marketing, by providing them with a biodegradable, naturally-based packaging material.

PropaFresh™ PFAM  is the company’s latest development specifically for the fresh produce market.  The high gloss biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film is supplied with integral anti-mist properties.   Anti-mist is an essential criteria when packing salad leaves and some prepared vegetables as it prevents condensation building up in the pack which detracts from its visual appeal.

PropaFresh™ PFAM is available in 30 and 35 micron thickness, is heat sealable on both sides, with an external print side and an internal anti-mist side and offers excellent machine performance (HFFS and VFFS).

The latest technology advances in Propafilm FFF flow-wrap films routinely deliver peak speeds of up to 100m/min making them, ideal for countlines and mini flow wrap applications which previously relied solely on cold seal films.

These low heat seal films enable packaging companies to use the same film on both high and low speed lines for greater flexibility and cost savings.  Specially developed coatings mean these films also give extremely strong seals, even if there is product contamination, crumbs or sugar, in the seal area.

Cellophane™ XS are high barrier coated cellulose films available in transparent, white and coloured grades.  Designed for twistwrap, overwrap and form-fill-seal applications, these films are especially suitable for packing hygroscopic products such as snacks, cereals and confectionery.

Also a variety of label facestock films will be highlighted at the show, in particular Rayoface™ CZPA which combines the crystal clarity and high gloss of BOPP with the additional squeeze performance of polyethylene and its sister product Rayoface™ WZPA a high performance white pigmented film.

Rayoface™ VTT  a new ultra high opacity, high yield cavitated white facestock film and Rayoface™ WTT  a tough UV-stabilized white film have been designed primarily for use in the industrial chemical, logistics and transport labelling markets and for labelling outdoor garden and DIY products.  Both films offer smudge-proof thermal transfer variable information printability.

Innovia Films is the world leader in BOPP films for labels and offers an extensive range of high performance films for food and beverage labelling.
