Launch of Biodegradable Label Film

Date: 11 September 2006

The first fully biodegradable and compostable NatureFlex film for labels is being launched by Innovia Films at LabelExpo Americas (Chicago, 11-14 September).

Certified under the European standard EN13432 and the US ASTM D6400, NatureFlex NVLC has also been tested for ambient compostability which means it is suitable for home composting.

Innovia Films is a global leader in biodegradable and compostable material technology as well as being ranked number one in the development and supply of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) label facestock film.

Dr Michael Taylor, Business Development Manager, says: “We are delighted to be able to introduce this ground-breaking film to the labels market.

“Designed for pressure-sensitive labeling applications, NatureFlex NVLC offers excellent printability, has high clarity for a no-label look, high strength and dimensional stability.”

The new film is ideal for use in applications where the complete package construction needs to be certified as biodegradable.

NatureFlex NVLC film has a central cellulose core, made from renewable wood pulp, sourced exclusively from plantations operating sustainable forestry principles, to which print and adhesive-receptive biodegradable coatings have been added.

The film is stiffer and more oriented than many biopolymers currently on the market making it ideal for labeling. Glossy and transparent, it is also static-free for easy handling.
