'Outstanding Performance' from New Rayoface™ Films

Date: 27 September 2005

The latest developments in label facestock material from Innovia Films has been given the “seal of approval” by Germany’s leading thermal transfer printing and ink jet marking specialists.

Marking & Moore, which is based in Elsdorf, has recently completed extensive tests on the new Rayoface™ WTT and VTT films and, says Technical Sales Manager, Holger Herzberg, both gave “outstanding performance”.

Rayoface™ WTT and VTT films are top coated, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), designed to give exceptional print performance with added moisture, oil, chemical and smudge resistance.

Their UV stable, paper-like topcoat is printable across a wide range of traditional print processes and for variable information printing (VIP) by thermal transfer, dot matrix printing or ink jet marking.

Rayoface™ WTT has a pigmented white BOPP base film whilst VTT is a high-yield “voided” white film.

With respect to variable product information such as serial and batch numbers, the highly absorbent topcoat permits high quality barcode printing. Virtually all thermal transfer ribbons, in particular wax/resin ribbon systems can be used.

Marking & Moore tested both films for scratch and smudge resistance as well as print quality.

“The films gave excellent results,” adds Holger Herzberg. “Print quality was especially good even on difficult bar codes where clarity is essential.  Inkjet marking gave high contrast smudge-proof results straight off of the printer”

Marking & Moore tested the Innovia Films’ products across a wide range of print variables, from simple dates and product information through to highly complex logos and bar codes.

“Testing new label films is an important part of the service we offer. It is essential that facestock materials are chosen which match the capability of today’s modern machinery.”
