Differential Films

Different surfaces can provide benefits

As highlighted in our high barrier films section, the need to keep food fresh for longer is fast becoming a pre-requisite for packaging.  Coatings applied to the surface of packaging films add an extra layer of barrier performance, improved machinability, enhanced printability and better sealability to the substrate.

In some applications, having a different coating on either side of the film can be beneficial, providing additional functionality and these are known as differential films.

They can facilitate different coefficient of friction characteristics on either side of the film to enable tighter packaging.  Or a fast coat on one surface for high speed packaging and hermetic seals.  A higher barrier coating on one surface will help to extend the shelf-life of the product.  Acrylic coating combinations can allow improved machinability and A/B sealing.  Anti-mist options are also available.

We can help you to find the right combination for your application that also provides excellent printability using any traditional print technique or using digital methods.
